.com.br & .ca registration with no local presence?

Hi LET

I'd like to register a .ca and a .com.br.

Both seem to require local presence, I don't have that.

Do you know a good registrar with a trustee service that could handle registrations with those TLDs? (If possible at a cheap price, of course - this is LET!)

Thank you very much fine folks :D

  • .ca doesn't seem to have requirements: https://www.gandi.net/domain/price/detail/ca/

    .com.br probably does, but .br.com doesn't:

    (poor person's TLD I guess)

.ca requires some Canadian connection/presence. It's a CIRA (issuer) requirement.

Hmm, OVH says something about that but gandi seems to just sell .ca without asking questions. They are usually informative about issues like that.

    Thanks.

I'd rather find a way to register a .com.br than go the .br.com route. Might be better than nothing though, but i'd rather get a .com if I had to go this route.

    From their .ca page:

Assigning: .CA domain names are open to persons connected to Canada according
with the Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants
    http://cira.ca/sites/default/files/attachment/policies/cprregistrants-en.pdf

I've found 'trustee services' for .com.br but nothing for .ca - registrars verify that the address is in Canada, i don't know if the registry verifies if the given information is true or not. Giving bogus data with an address in Canada might work but is probably not the best long term strategy... (Had .eu domain names with invented EU addresses for years without trouble though).

Godaddy seems the cheapest for .com.br and provide a trustee service. But they don't clearly state their renewal price and I consider them as scammers with their fake backorder system & unclear pricing...

Hello, I can help you with ".com.br" domain registration.

    I live in Brazil.

  • FWIW, second year I had a .CA domain CIRA made me verify a Canadian connection.

You have to have a document on https://cira.ca/legal-policy-compliance/compliance/compliance-documentation

You can register .com.br via godaddy as far I know.

Interesting, thank you very much! So better not play too much with a fake address...

Yeah; and it's not too expensive but they're not clear on their renewal price and it's a registrar I try to avoid. Will go there is I don't find any better solution though.

  • .com.br requires a CPF (social security number) or a CNPJ number (company registration number); it costs 30 BRL year. As GoDaddy has a company registered here just to keep domains under their account, i do think the renewal will likely be more expensive.

  • Some registrars will offer local presence to meet the requirement. For .ca, entering a Canadian address is valid enough to get the registration to pass, though obviously if you're using it for any value then you'll likely want to adhere to their requirements more closely.
