CPU/Ram should be able to handle about 500-1000 concurrent users. I'm not too versed on how much of an actual server I'd need so suggestions are welcome. Budget's probably around $30-$50. Does that sound feasible?
@hacktek What are you streaming?
A relay of Nasa TV.
Im not too sure how much ram that many users would use. Anyone know?

I've been doing some testing and ram consumption hasn't really gone up all that much dealing with around ~150-200. It's the CPU that's killing me. Keep in mind I'm transcoding the stream as well so that eats up about 20-30% cpu non-stop.
Hmm. I haven't had many users ever streaming before I would say to try hetzner first as its cheap .... I know ... hetzner haha. I honestly don't know how much cpu it would use with that many users I really couldn't tell ya.
This works exceptionally well.
How much bandwidth are you using?
Enterprise Dedicated Servers under $100 | 2GB KVM VPS for $3.99 |
Nasa TV relay? Nginx rtmp server could handle tons of connections with little CPU/ram usage. Transcoding once and send to everyone.
Hetzner: Intel Xeon E3-1271V3, 4x RAM 8192 MB DDR3 ECC, NIC 1000Mbit Intel I210 (30TB), 2x2TB HDD for 41,18€ excl. TAX (doesn't apply if you're non-EU customer)

@hacktek it seems you don't know exactly your needs, maybe you should go for a service you can upgrade ressources ?
