Experience with hostus.us

Does anyone have any experience with hostus.us. They seem to be pretty slow at replying around 8 hours. And they closed my ticket when I confirmed to purchase an order. But they are offering such a great unbeatable UK deal at:

– 6GB RAM

– 6GB vSwap

– 4 vCPU Cores (Fair Use)

– 150GB Disk Space

– 5TB transfer

– 1Gbps uplink

– 1x IPv4

– 6x IPv6

– OpenVZ / Breeze Panel

– $65/year

Is it worth it?

Ok, so I found your ticket, you submitted a ticket price haggling. Wanted a $65 discounted service for $40. Then you proceed to reply to the ticket back and forth haggling 8 times. So along the way, we just tired of it. At the end we just closed the ticket as your haggling and time wasting was just filling up out ticket queue with $0 income.

  • I have a KVM VPS with them and they're fantastic.

I will gladly underpay you Tuesday for a OVZburger today.

  • So far so good. Using their cheapest plan for my game server, no downtime :) - LA location.

  • I've had services with them almost from their beginnings and they are an excellent provider. Services are top notch and perform very well compared to even the most popular providers. I've never had to wait more than an hour or so for support aside from possibly billing or sales questions. Often, tickets are answered almost real time. All in all, awesome service provider.

Welp, now I have one too- even though I detest OpenVZ. Might as well dip my toes in the water, now that I've got more than fingers-n-toes in elsewhere and I'm starting to get some push back.

Certainly those 2GB OpenVZ $25/yr spec'd vps are good for that and various testing folks might want to do.

Now offer the same KVM specs for $25/year- you'll be sold out in minutes! ;)

  • Ive heard a lot of good things about them :)
Well 8h response time avg is still quite decent for a LET host.

  • 1052 MB/s on HDD RAID10?

  • My 4 days experience:

-On technical side, their servers are good. I got flat ping every time. Never experienced slowness attributed to overselling (yet).

-Ticket/customer service fail. Send them ticker to ask for openSUSE template (refer kbase), responded after 9 hours just to tell me they can't provide it.

-Being able to install pkey right on control panel is big plus.

Refused feature request of a feature that's not advertised on before buying is a customer service fail ? On top of it during Christmas? On top of it for the price you're paying ?

Refused feature request of a feature that's not advertised on before buying is a customer service fail ? On top of it during Christmas? On top of it for the price you're paying ?

    Can you read properly?
Whether they can fulfill my request or not - it doesn't matter. Im fine with Centos7. end of story.

Im complaining about the response time.

I made the request because they said in their KB to ticket them if desired template is not listed on the control panel.

They say 24 hour support, not 24 hours except Christmas.

  • And you got a response 9 hours later on a non-critical issue... I don't see how that is bad?

Over Christmas we're still offering 24 hour support, infact, over the last week 68% of tickets have been answered <1 hour which i'm happy with as we have been on reduced staff.

    Glad you are otherwise happy.

  • I was with hostus.us in LA data center. It has long uptime, but the network hiccups occur from time to time, --- reported by the Uptime Robot, take this with a grain of salt in case false alarm.

And I went through the LAX01 outage for couple hours. It sucks, but shit hit fans sometimes.

I finally churned because I am tired of managing servers and deployment pipeline. Let netlify to do it.

If you purchase one of their KVM VPSes you can ask them to custom mount you the latest OpenSUSE Leap iso.

indeed, i usually prefer kvm due to kernel and tcp level tweaks I can do but for the particular intended purpose of these hostus vpses, openvz is okay :)

  • Been with them for close to a year. Never had an bad experience. So far has been very good.

Yes there were minor downtimes. But no complaints. You can't expect any server to be 100℅ up, that's why you plan for redundancy.

Been tried many vps in the past. I would rate hostus in my top 3 definitely. In short they are a good provider for me.

Hey! small business runs on trust.

  • Where is HostUS registered? Is it USA or elsewhere? Looking around there is a HostUS Solutions inactive, registered 2006-2007 in Florida.

Grabbed 4x 2GB OpenVZ from Hostus and ran my Centmin Mod LEMP stack installer which times the install run so can serve as a benchmark for cpu, disk and network bandwidth performance combined https://community.centminmod.com/posts/42541/

Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 + CentOS 7 Install Times

    • For London 2GB OpenVZ with Intel Xeon E3-1270v5 @3.60Ghz = 685.0636s
    • For 1st Dallas 2GB OpenVZ within Intel Xeon E5-1650v2 @3.50Ghz = 1,202.3365s
    • For 2nd Dallas 2GB OpenVZ with Intel Xeon E5-2620v1 @2.0Ghz = 1,575.2032s
    • For Washington DC 2GB OpenVZ with Intel Xeon E5-1650v3 @3.50Ghz = 841.7536s
