    Am I missing the point of this - you have to include the IP anyway, why not just use the IP? So many (free) places can provide a better/more useful service.

    Cool!

  • Interesting. Wonder if there would be any way to incorporate IPv6.

  • I just use Hosts files, but in linux and windows environments

    The point is not to have to do that.
    You can't always edit the hosts file.

  • I've been looking for something like this where I don't need to edit the hosts file constantly. Thanks!

  • Sweet, thanks!

    You can also of course do this yourself on your own dns server (or any) with the domain of your choice.

  • For linux at least you can easily set this up with dnsmasq; install dnsmasq then (ubuntu for example) edit /etc/dnsmasq.d/my-dev-tld (new file) and add
    address=/my-dev-tld/127.0.0.1
    the restart dnsmasq.

    I've got mine working for .loc - avoid using .local & .localdomain to prevent conflicts.
