  • The right side bar drops down to the bottom and the threads move over to the right in Firefox 2 though. Passes validation though:

    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.lowendtalk.com/&charset=(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&group=0&ss=1

When a thread goes onto the second page, going to the last read post keeps it at the top. It doesn't go down to the new posts. Was doing that whenn I was coming in via the library computers so I think that's a bug.

  • Unfortunately I am not going to make sure things display visually fine on older browsers, especially when FF2 is probably not supported by Mozilla anymore.

  • Maybe change #Frame width to make it nicer with a simple 1024 pixels wide screen :-)

  • Love the improvements in LET! Much cleaner and easier to use. Very fast as well which is a huge plus for me!

  • Just had a thought while thinking about all the new accounts that were just created. wink wink being able to telll who's new and who's an old hand would be a plus. Maybe display post count within the post?

  • Where's the quote button? I have done a search on the thread and the source code for the thread and cannot find the button.

  • I keep getting a javascript popup labeled Quote nut I've yet to figure it out.

  • Ahh! It seems you highlight what you want to quote and then click the quote button that appears.

By the way I heard Firefox 5 and Chrome are both FREE! Want to give them a try?

Neither one works on the Eee PC Tim gave me. I'm stuck at 3. Debating on wiping and installing XP to be honest.

Not a biggie though. I can keep copying and pasting like I've been doing.

  • this is just perfect

  • @drmike -- I actually have an original Eee PC (Asus Eee PC 704, with 512MB memory, 4GB SSD, 7" 800x480 LCD and 660MHz Celeron). I installed Ubuntu 11.04 with LXDE and is running the latest Chrome as my browser -- which are perfectly fine. A bit slow, but quite usable.

I'm still using the default setup. apt-get kicks out with nothing but errors. Lots of errors.

I'm still working on it though. (For most of the day...)

I did get Firefox 3.6.18 installed though and the forums look fine.

    Thanks though for the response.

edit: Got dosbox to run. No sound. Have to look at that.

lol hahaha btw i can quote it with chrome and firefox 5.. (whistling)

  • Sorry if I missed this but is there an archive of the old site and/or posts?

  • 1st forum: http://old.lowendtalk.com/

    2nd forum: http://v2.lowendtalk.com/

    Hope this helps,

  • Did we ever come to a conclusion about self promotion outside of the offers subforum?

  • @drmike - can you give an example or PM me? Thanks.

  • Completely self promotion: 123com in this thread: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1079#Comment_1079

Self promotion within discussion in this thread by miTgiB: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1105#Comment_1105 (I don't have a problem with that one actually. It discussed all three providers being discussed.)

  • Just to mention that we don't have a users page like we did on the other forums.

    Example: http://v2.lowendtalk.com/users/

I know I used it on occasion.

  • Loving it ;)

@LEA, Is there any way to set a special css id/class for unread comments inside a thread?

  • Discussion threads need a permalink. Looks like right now, each comment within the thread has one but there's no way to figure out what the thread permalink is.

  • This discussion has the link http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/3/lowendtalk-v3-discussion-bye-osqa-back-to-forums-again. Isn't that a permalink?

  • Are we going to allow "Looking for a VPS" threads in this forum? Seems like anyone reading this forum should easily be able to look for LEBs on LEB.com by using the search bar and tags. Folks need to do a little bit of homework themselves and not be hand fed.

@rajprakashrajprakash was thinking the same thing....

There is the issue though that LEA does not provide a link from LET over to LEB though. It's been commented on before.

edit: Have to wonder about the guy wanting to get a ipap box after being told not to.

  • @rajprakash - true. However sometimes the LEB blog and the cheap VPS-seekers can be coming from different angles.

    • LowEndBox -- here are some of the latest cheap VPS offers. Review and criticise!
    • N00bs -- I am looking for the best VPS for my "specific needs", and I don't want to read through hundreds of comments and possibly fake reviews. Just tell me what I need to buy!

Bridging the two would be an interest problem to solve.

    {Never mind}

Heck, someone asked for a San Jose VPS. You have a tag for that one....

  • Quite a few in just a few days :-( Hope it's not going to get worse!
