Malaysia TMNet Traceroute

KenshinKenshin Member
edited August 2012 in General

Anyone here:
1) Know if TM Net has a traceroute/looking glass?
2) Knows a VPS provider that purely uses TMNet for bandwidth

Experiencing some screwy latency to TMNet, need to do traceroutes to find out what's going on.

    1) No, but you can try these IPs. I believe they are country gateways/dns for the residential subscribers.
    202.188.0.133
    202.188.1.5
    219.93.218.177

2)80% of vps provider users TMNEt for bandwidth.

The only traceroute tools which I know from Malaysia are

    Piradius Network (AS9930)
    http://inetutils.net/category/tools/subc/network/items/traceroute/

    Myloca - Telekom Malaysia (AS17464)
    http://mips.myloca.com/trace/

    Source: http://www.traceroute.org/#Malaysia

  • From what i can see, all dc in malaysia dont provide looking glass on their website. but, u can checkout malaysia host to test their traceroute ..

  • Vps in Malaysia is so damn expensive. :(

  • I got 3 VPS in Malaysia but all in AIMS DC. I'm using TMNet at my home, let me know if anything I can help.

Can you help me with a traceroute to 116.251.210.1 from Malaysia? I heard that TMNet blocks ICMP so I'm not sure if TCP/UDP traceroutes work. I'm getting 60ms latency to MY now via my best link so I think it might be link saturation since middle of the night is 15ms.

  • Thanks, but your provider is a SingTel customer so the latency is definitely low (since we're using SingTel as well). TMNet still 60ms on my end.

Any TMNet guys/girls can help before the latency drops back to normal off-peak hours?

  • This is not Singtel...but Vads...a subsidiary of TM...perhaps it went through Singtel...

    1) not sure bout that
    2) i guess not, TMNET for residential usage only if not mistaken, not that i ever see a host using tmnet (unless self host on residential network)

No, TM is the national carrier, their transit business operates under the same name. Though, true, not many VPS hosts on their network.

Everyone and their mom is on AIMS, and thus transit by Globaltransit Communications Sdn Bhd. ( http://globaltransit.net/ ) These guys, however, even have a public route server (telnet only, though) Give it a try, perhaps.

@semut's trace is a correct representation of TM's home user network, it's almost always like that unless you're extremely lucky and have fiber through unify/blockbuster.

No public looking glasses, sorry Kenshin. I'm not in the country anymore, I could offer a unify LG if I was :(

  • Global Transit so far no issues, only issue I'm having is with TMNet via SingTel, but thanks for the heads up. Another looking glass to add to my list.

No worries about the looking glass, I more or less isolated the problem down to SingTel <> TMNet bandwidth saturation, which makes the situation more complex than I would like since I can't just walk up to SingTel and get them to increase the pipe between them and TMNet.

Then you'll be the hero! :)
