Time out after whois command
It used to be working when run command "whois x.x.x.x",now it only shows "time out".
If the IP is beyond Linode JP,it shows"please update "
I checked the iptables and run apt-get update apt-get upgrade but still not work.
The command is working on another debian vps of the same provider.

Do you have port 43 open?
If your using ipv6 make sure to open port 43 also, some whois server use ipv6.
Try that and report back.
