Datashack vs. Wholesale Internet ... Throughput

Folks with services over in Datashack might want to look at this oddness. Unsure what their network policies are and what upstream QoS and network shaping are, but something clearly weird at Datashack compared to Wholesale Internet (they share bunch of stuff including Datashack being backhauled at last check through Wholesale -- although I could be wrong, traceroutes below show nearly identical routes outside facilities)

This is a speed test and not the first time I've seen this happen. Same file downloaded, both from Gbps servers at both locations and entirely different results. Tested and retested and same outcomes:

Speed test file in the Chicago metro area. Datashack and Wholesale both are in Kansas City. 15ms of net space and time between two cities.

From Datashack, takes HE's network. Throughput 1.6-2 M/s
From Wholesale, takes HE's network. Throughput 10.8 M/s

Big differences there on the throughput... Tested these multiple times with same general results.

So I did sanity speed test check with Cachefly (which node nearest is Chicago and goes HE to Chicago and hands off there to Nlayer):
Datashack = 54 M/s
Wholesale = 56.3 M/s

So no throughput issue seemingly there and utilizes HE's network, so not per se them either unless prioritizing Cachefly's traffic.

Back to that original test though and HE traffic from both KC locations to speed test in Chicago.

Compare the traceroutes:

Datashack:
4: 10gigabitethernet1-3.core1.mci2.he.net 0.438ms
5: 10gigabitethernet1-4.core1.mci1.he.net 0.833ms
6: 10gigabitethernet6-1.core1.chi1.he.net 19.413ms
7: 64.62.180.94 11.528ms asymm 8
8: no reply
9: 207.88.184.146.ptr.us.xo.net 12.018ms asymm 8
10: border6.po2-bbnet2.chg.pnap.net 11.842ms asymm 9
11: giglinx-44.border6.chg.pnap.net 15.697ms asymm 10

Wholesale:
2: 10gigabitethernet1-4.core1.mci1.he.net 0.313ms asymm 3
3: 10gigabitethernet6-1.core1.chi1.he.net 15.642ms asymm 4
4: 64.62.180.94 11.151ms asymm 5
5: no reply
6: 207.88.184.146.ptr.us.xo.net 11.706ms asymm 7
7: border6.po2-bbnet2.chg.pnap.net 18.635ms asymm 8
8: giglinx-44.border6.chg.pnap.net 15.382ms asymm 9

This is far from the first time I've seen this weird network performance stuff at Datashack. Shows up more and more frequently it seems, although I'm paying more attention to things there now.

Anyone else seen the same sort of thing and/or have stories related to these facilities and/or HE's network about similar weirdness?
