VPS to filter mail and send back to exchange

Hi Guys

Hoping for some advice...

I manage some exchange servers, hosted at clients site and have noticed a few are getting a workout filtering spam and viruses.

Is there a way to use a vps to forward the mx record for multiple domains to the vps, have it filter and scan mail and send back to the relevant exchange server and if so, what spec VPS would it need?

Any help is appreciated :)

Hmm. Alright, I suppose so :P

I'd set up this on a server and call it a day:

Don't let it fool you, it's nothing fancy, just a nice clean smooth installation of a mail relay running SpamAssassin. Honestly, that's all you need to clear out the average spam. I'm sure some customizations can be made to the SA rules just like any other setup, but then all the relay stuff is out of sight and out of mind at least.
