ServerAuction.net - Platform for buying and selling servers is now open for business

edited September 2015 in General

ServerAuction.net is a new platform for buying and selling servers.
We have completed the testing phase, and we are now open for business.
We are offering free listings, and no auction fees for the first 100 auctions listed on the platform.

There are still test auctions active, but if you create a new auction, it will show up on top of the results.

If you'd like to test out the functionality of the website, there are 2 accounts available for that:
test_seller / pass1234 AND test_buyer pass1234

Check it out at:
www.serverauction.net

Thank you,
Patrick

You may want to actually explain what your site is for.

  • Edited the title and description ;)

  • Still not able to open it on my phone (Safari)

  • It appears to not load.

  • Please try again now. I have disabled ssl.

  • Never mind. Not working for me now ;)

  • Are you going to promote the site if it is filled up with auctions?

    Yes, I will be.

    Looks good, I like it.
It's an opportunity for the providers to do huge server sales, and compete with prices.

    Nice job.

  • You cannot visit www.serverauction.net right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

    ....

  • Same error here. Seems odd to be open for business with just a self signed cert!

If the project is no longer in demo mode, I believe most of the test auctions should be removed. Some visitors may become caused as a result of the test auctions.

You are using a self-signed certificate. Maybe you should install a paid SSL - since this is an eCommerce site.

    Otherwise, good luck.

  • I'd say stillbirth due to 5% fees.

I liked the Website. @Pat_ServerAuction You can PM me. I'll give you a AlphaSSL for free.

  • Took a brief look. Some points that came to mind:

    • Geographic information isn't detailed enough. For U.S., I want to know at least if west coast vs east coast. Adding a state field would be even better.
    • Unclear how to exit modal panel. Took a bit of experimenting to get the idea of clickout outside it, and it still feels strange to have to do that. Suggest adding a close button. Furthermore, there is a top right button, but it leads to a menu that does not even include a close option, making things triply annoying.
  • Sorry for the slow reply guys. Half-ass businessman I am. State the site is open for business, disable ssl, and go out for the night. The site works fine, but you'd have to clear your cache if you accessed the site before. I had it set to 301 all traffic to https, and now I disabled ssl. The server is **suppose to ** redirect https traffic to http, but for some reason it doesn't. If you have accessed the site before and have it in cache, it redirects you to the https site and it's showing the self-signed certificate garbage.

Many rookie mistakes here, I know, don't tear me apart. Learning I am ;)

A question to more knowledgeable people here. How come the nginx is not redirecting to http? Here is my .conf

    server { listen 443; server_name serverauction.net www.serverauction.net; return 302 http://www.serverauction.net$request_uri; }

It is placed on top of the .conf file.
For now, I will re-enable ssl because it worked for most people and didn't for some.

    I am using POSITIVESSL.

Thanks, and sorry again for the rookieness...
    Patrick

@sambling Yes, I did have HSTS before, but I commented it out. But because the site is in your cache, AND the redirect from https to http isn't working, it's still showing up. Good eye my friend ;)

Thank you @Mahfuz_SS_EHL. I have an ssl, it just wasn't enabled because I figured all traffic would be redirected from https to http, but it didn't.

@singsing Thank you for your observations. You are absolutely right on every point. I will include a state option for US, and a close button for every popup.

  • Nice! Hope it will be a good place to find sweet deals from various providers :)

Thank you @scy, I hope so too ;)

I have now switched the ssl back on, so most of you (hopefully) will be able to access the site.

If you're still having issues, please let me know.

I'm getting SSL Not Trusted Error on Android 4.4. After further Investigation, I got:

    https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=serverauction.net

Intermediate Certs are not installed, so there is Chain Issues !

  • ok here

  • You have to chain the trust certificates for it to work in every browser!

  • Just realized that there is something messed up with the ordering of the columns, especially the one for the price.
As you can also see in the screenshot that @miklos posted, there are lower prices comming after the highest ones...

Exactly. Also should avoid SNI if you want to support people still on XP+IE.

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=serverauction.net has details on things you should fix.

(Just realized Mahfuz_SS_EHL already linked to that, but it's important so worth linking to again in case you missed it before)

CM Browser is one of the most used Android Browsers ! So, you should fix the Chain Issue :-)

  • a new project: good look - and also the web needs bargain offers ;-)

  • Nice work. Reminds me of this:
    https://robot.your-server.de/order/market/

  • but only nuremberg & co - more variety would be nice.
