yes it is and from basic corrupt file notepad works lol
You can run windows apps via wine on linux, but I guess you can't run x64 apps via wine. Try Sublime text It's a great freemium alternative for notepad++ and it's cross-platform.
Dude screw notepad++! Try Gedit, should have all the fun syntax highlighting that you need
Geany is another similar option for Linux.

If we're suggesting better editors, then look at Brackets Just figured that Geany (and well, gedit) would be closest to Notepad++.
