SoYouStart network speed

Hello,

I am considering a server from SoYouStart. However, I am wondering how fast the internet speed is. At Swiftway, I have 100 Mbps. How does that work for SoYouStart? Are there any customers that can show me their results?

Thanks,
Dennis

    250mbit with 1Gbit burst.

    Cachefly:

    2015-01-22 11:04:19 (83.7 MB/s) - `/dev/null' saved [104857600/104857600]

  • That looks OK. What about the upload speed?

    250Mb max, 1Gbps OVH internal

Is this confirmed? My upload speed to in house ftp backup server is limited to 250Mbps.

well it appears to be the case on my servers (and when testing on the ovh server at speedtest.net

It should be a bug. All servers i have access to with OVH have 250 mbps limitation on upload. Real speed is usually ~180 mbps.

the 250Mbps cap applies to everything else (only upload)

You mean 250mbps minimum? I thought it was 250mbps guaranteed with 1gbit burst

  • I thought it was hard capped at 250Mbit/s

no that's max upload. download is totally different that's 1Gbps max.

  • Ah I was thinking of Online.net who guarantee a certain amount but allow up to 1gbps

I have 2 SyS servers and one from OVH. The interesting thing is, one of the SyS has faster internet connectivity than the other two (the other SyS and the 3 times more expensive OVH EG-32). The difference is quite noticeable when downloading large files. So, when it comes to network speeds, your mileage may vary at OVH.

  • When observing my 2 SYS servers upload speed, it seems that the approximate is 200mbps. Download speed can be bursted to nearly 1 Gbps though.

  • I found around 20 MBps for transfer between 2 server in the same location (BHS).

I have some old serverbear benchmarks for hetzner servers:

    http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2014/09/13/mFoHKU12uQIi0DwW
    http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2014/10/03/Gi3zdh1w2Wp7tHJn
    http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2013/08/19/I5gKYFqvs17TOoOv

and a wable while we're at it:

    http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2014/05/23/qYyyKaXnblykQ8sM

    ... click on 'network'.

in any case, I've had a half dozen diff servers with Hetzner and they've all easily been able to maintain 60MB/s upstream speeds. I had one of them at 100MB/s + for 5 minutes or so before I cancelled it, no clue if it could have kept that up for hours or what, didn't think it was prudent to keep it going at that speed...

Those bandwidth benchmarks for the hetzner servers are 66.8 MB/s, 102 MB/s, and 88.6 MB/s. The 102 is higher than any other dedicated server on there, but was never added (same deal with wable at 111 MB/s).

  • How you guys are doing upload speed test?? I am also testing network speed of a server.
