  • Don't install any software and your VPS will stay up!

  • Ask their support if they are available.

    TK submitted.

  • I'm not installing software or doing anything.
It's been down for half a day every week for the past two weeks.

Their support usually responds within an hour or two. But it's always the same thing, rebuilding or rebooting. And it takes many hours for them to fix it. It's still down for almost 10 hours now.

  • Hello,

Having the same issue too.. It's been around this last 3 days.. I got a notification that the server down. Check the server while it's online using uptime command, it says no offline at all.

Having check using just-ping.com, seems they currently have some network issue... Almost from all location stated it' up to 80% data lost.

Sent a ticket, just got only one line of respond..

    "This is online now."

No other information at all... and now my server is unreachable again. Lucky this is just for my "play" server, not a production.

Anyone else having the same issue?

  • I am sure it is because of nodewatch

  • Yes, same issue. Last 3 days.

I asked to be moved to another machine, but they're making up silly excuses. Like that the machine is down, when it is not down and up and working.

The machine itself is bad. The loadavg is 1-3, even when nothing is running.

When I ran some speed tests, it was slow to extremely slow. I ran this test which doesn't use any disk i/o...
    dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/null count=1000

I'm getting 50-1000kB/s on the VPS.
On a normal machine it is 8000kB/s+

The ping tests had random speeds too, probably cause the CPU is overloaded.

  • I have very stable VPS from them somehow, paid it yearly:

Pure SSD OpenVZ - OpenVZ SSD (EXCLUSIVE) - 2GB RAM
    dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/null count=1000
    1000+0 records in
    1000+0 records out
    512000 bytes (512 kB) copied, 0.028668 s, 17.9 MB/s

This is an idle box and rebuild it a few moments ago:

     Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 v3 @ 3.40GHz
    Number of cores : 4
    CPU frequency : 800.000 MHz
Total amount of ram : 2048 MB
Total amount of swap : 0 MB
    System uptime : 11 min,

DD test on ploop so not the real speed actually :)

My OpenVZ on SYS (SSD-3) using ploop instead of simfs:

    # dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; rm -f test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 0.766144 s, 1.4 GB/s

  • WHAT ARE YOU SERIOUS!

Why would you want to install software?!

@karevos, I have forward your ticket to a senior admin to take a closer look. Its possible something was overlooked. We will get this resolved, and I am sorry for the delay. I will have a chat with the tech that took care of your ticket and ask why he was not more informative.

@niknah, please give me a ticket ID to look at so your issue is resolved also. We do not like lingering issues, and want to fix a problem is one persists.

@BharatB, Im not sure if you have been a customer or are even a current customer, if you have any problem with ChicagoVPS please PM me any concerns so those can get taken care of also. I looked in our database and did not find you as a current or past client.

  • Thanks Chris. I got everything sorted out today.

A problem with the support maybe that there is always someone different answering the ticket. It takes time for each person to read the whole ticket to see what's going on, and some times only half a job is done.

After a lot of back and forth for a few days, everything's working like it used to.

    Happy new year!

@niknah, I am glad to hear, and yes, sometimes its hard when we have multiple support techs dealing with a ticket they are unfamiliar with. That is something I will improve on.

I also want to point out that this is a personal request to anyone to either PM me or email me if they have any issues.

ChicagoVPS has turned a new leaf the past few months, and we want to have our customers happy, and run a smooth operation.

Happy New Year everyone, 2015 will be an exciting one!

    Sorry for the late.
The issue resolved after the tech changed my server location.

Does this mean after my MULTIPLE requests to be removed from your mailing list, multiple times of which was sent directly to your email, my email will finally be removed???

Not defending CVPS too much but sometimes things just get out of hand. They need to get themselves together though, they should have more than enough resources to do that and people have been complaining about issues like this for far too long.
