Can anyone tell me more about dr.server

I have been hearing a lot of things about dr server and how good they are. However, I am slightly confused, seeing as they seem to have loads of different websites offering different services:
drserver.net
https://dirtcheap.ninja
http://xenstorage.com
http://byteshack.net
http://abusivecores.com

What are the other hosters that a powered by drserver or is that all of them?

Also what do all of these services offer, what is different with all of them and which is best for what?

Thanks.

    drserver is all that brands.

And for choosing, if you need cheap and low ram server, dirtcheap.
XenStorage for big storage plans (backups and things like that), ByteShack is a normal service, normal cpu, normal storage, everything normal for low price, and abusive cores, if I'm not mistaken, is servers for abuse of cpu and things like that.

    Pretty self explanatory :)

Oh and you can't go wrong with drserver, have two servers with them, and can't say nothing bad against them

  • dr server owns all the brands you mentioned in the first post.

Rather than having one site with multiple ranges he just has a site for each range.

You could also just ask him @drserver...

  • There's also http://sugarvps.com

  • Just a heads up, but as far as I'm aware, DrServer is not actually a doctor. That may make you re-evaulate you position I'd imagine.

    Forgot about http://sugarvps.com

Edit: seen someone already mentioned it.

What's next? You going to tell me Dr. Dre isn't a real doctor either?

    What does sugarVPS specialise in?
What is the difference between sugarVPS and ByteShack then? From the looks of it sugarVPS also seems like a 'normal service'.

I think drserver's core competency is making splashy front pages :-)

    Hi guys,

SugarVPS: XENSERVER platform, big ram, HW raid 10 - 4 drives array, PHVM systems, Low density nodes

Abusivecores: XENSERVER platform, big ram, SATA or SSD, PHVM systems, Low density nodes with dedicated cores

Byteshack: High IOPS servers, 6 drives arrays with raid cards in raid 10 mode, low ram systems, high density nodes

Dirtcheap ninjas: same nodes as byteshack but with lower cpu and i/o priority

XENSTORAGE: Planned to be cheap fat storage, but after Chicago fiasco we turned it into high performance storage systems, highly cached with super fast bonded network links. Complete opposite as planned.

    Future plans:

Disk porn range: Small deploymend of overclocked i7 with super fast ssds. Launch date TBA

Frag 101 : our GAME VPS range, in last stage of deployment.

    History of drServer:
Drserver started long ago in 2004 as small computer shop. I have founded it with 1500 €. We started to sell hardware but we have also offered our IT services to clients in our city. In 2006 we got big lawyer office as client and they had demand for offsite storage. At that period best possible EU hosting was OVH so we get few nodes there and we sold them FTP accounts so they can backup their things in case of disaster. 2007 We have splited current MaxCOM computer systems into 2 branches. One of them was drserver as Disaster Recovery Server, not like doctor. we did those ftp backups for decent period of time, however big cheap storage got in europe so we was out of main business really shortly, however we had nice bunch of money to invest. Till 2010 we had decent amount of managed Cpanel customers and things was going well. 2011 and 2012 was disaster. I really dont know what happend but in my country marked collapsed over night. Week after week, month after month our clients was getting out of business. At that time period we had around 200ish top paying management contracts. Month after month that ended on like 30ish. We have 14 still today.

In summer of 2012 we entered in drServer era like it is now on this form with this business model.

drServer now have 4 permanent staff members, own accounting, own marketing agency (operated by me), and we are family operated business. Me, my brother and my sister in law are working in drServer.

If you need any more clarification i am here to answer it.

  • Nice to know the history behind your services @drserver!

    Thanked by 2netomx drserver
  • Dr.Server is great, as a business and as a person. If anyone willing to buy vps or similar stuff, do not be afraid about his services. He is one of my 2-3 favorite providers, maybe the favorite!

Thanks for this. Any idea when frag101 will launch? Also, cheap fat storage is what I was after, which one would you recommend for that?
Also just out of curiosity, what sort of thing would dirtcheap.ninja be used for, seeing as you don't get a lot with it.

    Nice company, indeed!

They had a server crash (see LEB) but seems like they did handle it as gentlemens.
edit: I guess that's what you mention in your post as the chicago fiasco

@drserver: Curious about that btw, have you been able to get the server up again or did you have to move all curstomers?

Pretty good VPSes in this price range imo

  • I have been hosting with dr.server for close to a year now and there is nothing bad i can say about his services. He is always upfront and gives fair deals. You wont find any gvh pricing there because he is always after sustainable business model which to me means he is in it for the long hual.

They were moved to Incero with double RAM as compensation. I get to keep very nice package at a very low price.

  • As a fellow host, @drserver is a great guy. Picked up a storage plan for person project, the node ended up having RAID issues and he just refunded me without question.

    Thanked by 1drserver
  • so is it still technically disaster recovery server, or did you change it to doctor server? @drserver
