OVH VPS Cloud

Is anyone using these, they're pretty good with having dedicated/guaranteed cpu and ram. Only problem is the hdd space.

Edit: fixed the hdd space issue by using hubicfuse to add additional storage. This thing is nice, I'm surprised I've seen nothing about it on here before

The OVH classic vps line is.. not so good.

Try contabo.com vps line. I has a vps with them and pretty good. I run gameservers on it.

I'm not talking about the classic, I mean the cloud. The cloud one has dedicated cpu cores...

You can also add upto 16 geolocated ips

The pricing is not attractive even compared to OVH's own dedis (which also have "dedicated CPU cores" btw :).

  • Here's a benchmark:

    root@vps92956:/# wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash
CPU model : AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6386 SE
    Number of cores : 2
    CPU frequency : 2800.000 MHz
Total amount of ram : 1995 MB
Total amount of swap : 2049 MB
    System uptime : 15 min,
    Download speed from CacheFly: 11.8MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 8.81MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 9.45MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 6.69MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 10.1MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 11.5MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 5.44MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 7.89MB/s

You're right the pricing is a little high, but you can add ip's and more storage. Oh and windows is included...

Not bad at all. Theese opteron cpus like a shit. I used it at serverloft.de root servers. Low power very well.

  • I've only heard good things about the Cloud VPS line. The classic line is totally different.

  • What cloud orchestration platform are they using?

    Vmware for virtualisation at least

  • @ZweiTiger said:

Thanks for the contabo suggestion, I'm giving it a try.

  • @sc754 said:

They dont have setup fee now. So give it a try. 100% uptime until now. Stable. And KVM. But yes they use i7 920. But not slow the things. :)

    Network is excellent.

Are the cpu resources guaranteed or shared?

You could use it 100% as you want. Resources are guaranteed

last 3 months using ovh vmware vps

    DOWNTIME 18h 22m (22 outages)

    UPTIME 99.18%

  • Last 6 months: 0 outage, 1 reboot (upgraded kernel)

  • OVH is pretty reliable.

    "Test Environment"

  • I have an OVH VPS Cloud 2. cat /proc/cpuinfo showed me the processor as Opteron 4386. I did a reboot through OVH panel & now it shows Opteron 6386 SE.

Reboot again to see if it keeps changing

No it didn't when I rebooted third time but remember OVH use only Opteron processors in their cloud & vps lineups, mostly 4386 & 6386 SE.

The new CPU is more powerful, 16 cores instead of 8 (even though MHz are a bit lower). Perhaps they are upgrading their nodes, and scheduled that your VPS is to be migrated to a newer node as soon as you reboot it. And if so, not forcing a reboot, but waiting for it, is nice of them.

Actually when now I have rebooted my other VPS Cloud 1 it is showing CPU to be 4386 where as previously it was 6386 SE. So, I think it is just some sort of cloud functionality rather than upgradation.

  • I did use their classic VPS line, it's total shit. (for http/vpn is ok).

Is the Cloud VPS at OVH good?

Anyone can make serverbear benchmark and share that?

Strange about the i7 claim on the cpu. It's 2 x 2.1Ghz on mine so it's not an i7. Looks like it's really 2 x e5 2620v2 cores/threads looking at their dedis. I've just installed windows on mine using joodles method xD

Performance is very good for the money

    @JoeMerit, yep, wrong thread.

I have one from the Classic line with OVH and one from FirstHeberg (cheapest). Both are pretty OK for the price I paid: 2.4E @ OVH and 1.8E @ FirstHeberg.

PS: both work better than the 5$ I paid with other providers (exceptions like Ramnode, INIZ and such apply).

Did you even read any of the posts in the thread... what you posted has nothing to do with anything.
