Network (SNMP) monitoring software

JohnBJohnB Member

Hey,

So basically I have a /24 from my provider in NL on my own switch (Juniper with SNMP) which I have observium for monitoring the bandwidth.

Is there any free software that would be better and do:

  • Bandwidth (in/out) per IP (To find the IP under DDoS etc)
  • Nice Bandwidth graphs
  • PPS graphs

Thanks

  • nfsen with nfdump is as good as it gets, for free that is.

  • Observium should do this, however I have never used it.

    Observium has no flow processing.

  • LibreNMS is a Opensource fork of Observium worth looking at.

  • Cacti can do exactly what you want, but it's a little painful to set up.

I have posted about some cacti alternatives in the past that can also do this.

You should ask your Juniper Inside Sales Rep about what software they recommend, mine was nice enough to send me an email with instructions on how to add their SNMP information to my existing monitoring.

I like PRTG a lot, but it's only free for 5 interfaces or something stupid like that.

  • You want something that supports flows, depending on which switch you have will determine which type of flowdata you can export. That will give you data on whats being moved. You could also use something like snort/suricata on a mirror port to monitor for traffic types
