ServerPilot: new, free hosting control panel

edited December 2013 in Offers

Hi everyone,

Our company has launched a new hosting control panel, ServerPilot, that is great for resource-limited servers.

https://serverpilot.io/

Here's a bit more info about ServerPilot:

  • Pricing
    • free for basic control panel stuff (configuration and security)
    • we charge for advanced features like monitoring
    • See plans and pricing.
  • Features
    • configures and installs everything the server needs
    • centralized, SaaS control panel so you don't waste resources on your server
    • configures PHP websites and MySQL databases
    • offers server stats monitoring and application error monitoring
    • automates security updates and sets up a firewall
    • More features.
  • What we don't do
    • Manage email
    • Manage DNS

If you're selling shared hosting, ServerPilot is not yet a replacement for cPanel or Plesk. Our focus is on a secure, lightweight control panel for developers and VPS owners to manage their own websites on their own servers. If you're a developer with your own servers hosting your websites, you'll love us. If you're selling VPSes, ServerPilot is something many of your clients will love.

Please send us questions, feedback, and feature requests.

Thanks!

Justin Samuel

so Email notifications are included not in the free versions what means no password lost function included?

  • @Infinity580 Free accounts definitely will get access to lost password functionality. The only emails the free accounts don't get are monitoring emails such as low disk space notifications, website 500 error notifications, etc.

We should make this clearer on the pricing page.

  • put some videos :)

  • @tridinebandim We've got a few videos linked from https://serverpilot.io/community/ but we do need to add more. We've debated putting a video on the home page.

    thinking of incorporating OpenLiteSpeed

Our main focus right now is to continue building out our core set of features and functionality. We very much believe in focusing our early efforts toward being amazing for small set of users than just good for a large set of users. So, until we have achieved the level of awesomeness that we believe truly represents what is possible with ServerPilot, we're not going to expand our OS or language support.

That said, we definitely want to expand our supported languages and distros. We're not doing it right now, though.

This is actually the first request we've gotten for OpenLiteSpeed. We'd have to get a lot more demand for it before we'd consider incorporating it. We believe strongly in simplicity, so there will have to be a very compelling reason or a lot of demand for us to add another webserver in addition to Nginx and Apache which we already support.

Looks sexy! I'm definitely going to give it a try. I'd like to see some LET launch promo pricing on the plans though ;)

  • $49/month for full features.

    Looks Clean and nice.

Free version is having req. things to start off with.

Gonna go ahead and make a feature request. Auto installation of mail server. Do that, throw out some promo codes on LET from time to time, you'll get some payments :)

  • Tried their free plans, it works flawlessly on my DO, but not on my other ovz vps. Anyways well done on the awesome project!

Thanks! As for promo codes, we've considered those but it just turns out to not be a good use of our time right now. A big part of the reason that we can create something so great is that we're very careful with how we spend our time. We just skipped the idea of promo codes and went with a generous free plan.

Thank you. We really aim for a clean and simple experience. Part of our frustration with other control panels over the years has been how bloated and complicated they are. If the other control panels were secure and easy to use, we probably would not have quit our jobs to create ServerPilot.

Just so you know, all of our plans, including the free plan, will continue to get new features over the coming years.

Thanks for the feature request. At the moment we're focused only on people using servers for website hosting. As our team grows and we can do more, we'll reconsider mail server management.

In general, though, if we go down the path of mail server management it probably means we're trying to go head-to-head with existing hosting control panels for use by hosting companies selling shared hosting. For now, our focus is on developers and businesses using cloud servers and VPSes, as well as hosting companies looking for a better control panel to offer their VPS customers.

Thank you! It's definitely clear to us how popular DigitalOcean is based on how many of our customers are using them.

We don't work with many OpenVZ servers. The issue is that OpenVZ guest VMs use the host system's kernel and often the host system is using a very old kernel. That causes problems with recent Ubuntu versions because the OS isn't expecting to be run with a very old kernel and some things break.

Most hosts that offer OpenVZ VPSes also offer KVM or XEN VPSes which will work perfectly with ServerPilot. Both KVM and XEN have the guest VM run their own kernel, so it will be the standard kernel the OS is expecting.

In case you mean the company "ovzvps", it looks like they do offer XEN VPSes in addition to OpenVZ but they seem to be out of stock of XEN VPSes at the moment.
