Two years ago, I signed up for shared web hosting (with a LET provider I don't need to name yet). I set an A record for the root domain names. The hosting worked perfectly until last month, when DNS for my domain names terminally failed to resolve. Specifically, a Chrome browser still gives the following error:

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I did not take any troubleshooting steps. I also did not alter my DNS in any way. Overall, I took no actions that would create the problem or resolve the problem. This leads me to believe the hosting provider changed something on their end.

Eventually I communicated with the provider and received the following message:

DNS of your website is wrong. Please use our name servers not IP.

While I don't consider myself a newbie, I am puzzled by this instruction. Is anyone here willing to help me walk through the logic?

I didn't reply yet, for instance to ask if there's a reason why it worked before and then stopped working.

My domain names are registered where they are because I like the free DNS hosting the registrar provides with registration. Is the shared web hosting provider telling me to abandon my favorite DNS hosting just so that a web browser will display a web page?

I have been hosting some things for friends/family (not planning to host for randoms due to my TOS beeing abused as soon as people read it...)

Mainly Paperless with tripple daily independent backups, offline backups and i also offer google/s3 to the person's account. I basically made sure the data is redundant and not really dependent on me or on host X or Y existing. Shit can really hit the fan and data should exist.
plus paperless AI (chatgpt/local model)

also got a Windows VM for a friend for twitch streams and other things

I dont offer full VPS experience or anything for tech savvy people (unless you want only backups from me, then can offer that) but basically fully managed apps by me, i deal with backups, updated and security.

Was thinking to offer bitwarden but we all use 1password family and that's easier and more lucritive to me. Plus the person can harass 1password support instead of me.

what else could i host that makes sense for people ? google drive alternative didn't take off, was pretty expensive anyways... paperless solves a real problem here in germany.

Windows VM does not fit many due to performance (or rather, lack off)

ideas?

I did see ftp details is that the only way? so just get the site how I want it locally and then upload to the hosting?

Hi LET,

Host nodes for Slow Servers are definitely on the small side, and they are a bit unusual. This manifests in plans and pricing.

I was wondering about making a fairly small adjustment to my node configuration and if it's something that would actually interest customers or not.

I designed the hosts to use as little power as possible, to be built off old hardware, and to work well with my choice of hypervisor (OpenBSD.) This is a bit of an unusual set of criterea.

This a reference node looks like this:

CPU: Opteron 4162EE (6 core, 1.7GHz)
Memory: 32GiB ECC
Storage: 1TB Samsung 850 PRO or 1TB Velicoraptor

This gives me multiples of 1GB of memory per 32GB of storage, which is certainly above average. I don't do the whole alacarte CPU/memory/disk -- it doesn't work well with small hosts.

One major limitation is that OpenBSD's VMM can only issue one vCPU, so anything genuinely CPU heavy is out. Another limitation is that OpenBSD's scheduling isn't great, and if every core is pegged, performance drops rapidly. So keeping a fairly generous core to VPS ratio is important.

While I've seen Xen run and schedule 256MB VPSs admirably (with 4 vCPUs, what the host had!), it just isn't OpenBSD's forte at the moment. And OpenBSD itself, if a guest, will swap much less than 768MB just on kernel relinking. So this puts me in an unusual category of low power/performance, but not capable of lots of very low power servers (think Tierhive.)

Ultimately, my pricing is simple, but high: $6/GB of memory, per 32GB disk. $1.50/month extra for IPv4.

What I realized is that for a small increase in power use, I could double the host memory with registered dimms (so 64GB per node instead of 32GB.) This wouldn't be that expensive up front. I'd have to double check power usage, but I'm guessing it would add a few watts. Now with this, I wouldn't want to host more VPSs. I would just offer more memory for roughly the same amount of money, basically.

The current smallest size is 768MB. So I might end up with a larger minimum size of 1.5GB of memory. Unless I increased disk space, it would then be 1GB memory/16GB disk.

So the smallest $4.50/month plan would get bumped up from 768MB to 1.5GB memory with 24GB of disk.

On the larger end of things, it becomes less useful -- when are you going to use more than 16GB of memory with one vCPU? I do currently use a 16GB / 512GB disk / 1 vCPU server succeessfully as a Monero now (on a Velociraptor, nonetheless!) Doubling that memory to 32GB seems useless in this application.

I could potentially add an extra drive at the same time, also increasing power usage but not tremendously. At that point I don't think I'd give twice as much for the same price -- I'd have to evaluate it.

I know a lot of people are happy with 512MB memory servers. Some are happy with 1GB. And some want more. But the ones that want more, do you also need more CPU to go with it? Or would this make my offering more usable?

Thank you!

PS: Here's my current reference node: https://slowservers.net/hosts/loki/
And some ramblings on pricing, if you just can't get enough of this long form content: https://slowservers.net/gemlog/2026-04-25-on-pricing.gmi

Im running a vpn service with arounf 900 users, im using xray core, my vps services were too weak to handle this amount of users so i purchased the first vds plan on their website(8g 4c). expecting to be able to handle a few more users as well but im getting random delays, high pings and random disconnections.

Here’s a cleaner Reddit-ready version with bold formatting:

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a beginner-friendly VPS for my first self-hosted setup.

My main goal is to run a personal V2Ray/Xray server using protocols like VLESS, Trojan, Reality, or TLS, with some light and occasional torrenting on the side.

Requirements:

Budget:
Preferably under $5/month. I can stretch a little if the provider is genuinely worth it.

Main Usage:
Personal V2Ray/Xray server
Protocols like VLESS, Trojan, Reality, TLS
Light and occasional P2P/torrenting

Location:
Singapore strongly preferred for low latency.
Nearby Asia locations are okay only if the routing and latency are good.

Network and Policy:
Looking for a provider that allows P2P or is at least reasonably tolerant of light legal torrent traffic.
Good bandwidth, stable routing, and fewer strict abuse issues would be ideal.
Offshore or less strict DMCA handling is a plus.

Payment:
Credit/debit card support preferred.

Experience Level:
This is my first VPS, so I’m looking for something simple, reliable, and beginner-friendly.

I care more about stable performance, decent bandwidth, low latency, and reliability than high specs.

Any provider recommendations or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I’m running a small self-hosted mail server and I’m trying to understand whether this behavior is expected or if I’m missing something.

Environment

FreeBSD 14 amd64

OpenSSL 3.5.4 (base system)

Postfix (SMTP/submission)

Dovecot (IMAPS)

DNSSEC + DANE enabled

ECDSA Let’s Encrypt certificate

IPv4 + IPv6

TLS 1.0/1.1 disabled

Openssl : OpenSSL 3.5.4 30 Sep 2025
Lib link:
/usr/lib/libssl.so.35
/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.35

Current TLS state:
nmap --script ssl-enum-ciphers now shows only:

CHACHA20_POLY1305

AES-GCM

TLS 1.2 / TLS 1.3 only

X25519

no CBC

no CAMELLIA

no 3DES

Everything negotiates correctly with SHA256+ during actual TLS sessions.

The issue:
Despite this, Internet.nl and LuxSci still complain about SHA1 signature algorithms being advertised in TLS 1.2.

Their wording is basically:
SHA1 signature algorithms are still advertised/supported for TLS 1.2.

I already added a custom OpenSSL policy in /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf:
[ssl_sect]
system_default = system_default_sect
[system_default_sect]
MinProtocol = TLSv1.2
SignatureAlgorithms = ECDSA+SHA256:ECDSA+SHA384:ECDSA+SHA512:RSA-PSS+SHA256:RSA-PSS+SHA384:RSA-PSS+SHA512:RSA+SHA256:RSA+SHA384:RSA+SHA512

But scanners still report SHA1 advertisement capability.

Questions
1. Is this simply expected behavior with OpenSSL 3.x TLS 1.2 compatibility?
2. Does OpenSSL still advertise SHA1 internally even when stronger algorithms are preferred?
3. Has anyone successfully removed SHA1 advertisement entirely on FreeBSD/OpenSSL without disabling TLS 1.2?
4. Is this more of a scanner “policy warning” rather than a practical security issue?

The server already passes:

SPF

DKIM

DMARC

DANE

MTA-STS

STARTTLS

modern ciphers

ECDSA certs

Mail flow works correctly and negotiated sessions are using SHA256+.

Just trying to understand whether this is:

normal OpenSSL behavior

FreeBSD-specific

Postfix-specific

or something actually misconfigured.

Many Thanks

So what can I get from it? the 40$ Hostdzire deal was perfect but alas, that is no more. So anything else with similar specs?

Location: anywhere with decent connectivity
CPU - as many as possible, but 2 should do.
RAM - 4GB would do, but is 8 possible?
Disk - SSD preferred, would LOVE NVMe. 100GB minimum
NW - 1GBps preferred, 500GB/ month should be enough

it will be always be behind tailscale, no public access, if it helps in anyway.

I’ve been using their products for years and have had a great experience, so I set up an affiliate link and shared it with my readers.

However, about a month ago, I requested a withdrawal of the affiliate commissions I’d earned through hard work to my PayPal account. They promised payment within 7–14 days, but it’s been over a month now, and when I messaged them again, no one responded! So I opened a new support ticket, but they simply told me to “continue waiting for service” and then closed my ticket.

I’ve seen many users on the LET forum reporting similar issues. I’m wondering if Cloudcone has lost all credibility and is planning to shut down and disappear? If anyone has any information, please let me know!

I’d also like to ask the official team to address this matter @Cloudcone

I am searching for a free email hosting for a non profit with custom domain name. There are multiple platforms offering free email hosting on the web, but they have a specific need.

The non-profit is not sending a high quantity of emails per day (5-10 per day on average, in total), with around 7 email accounts. The disk space is not a problem (they usually download the emails and store locally, while keeping their accounts with only important data). The only requirement is to allow the use of mail clients (such as the mail client on android, or thunderbird) with the specific protocols. I am unable to find a service like this.

They used the free plan of Zoho, but it doesn't allow external mail clients.

Any advice is really appreciated! Thanks!

I am looking for genuine UK static residential proxies (Dedicated ISP) for e-commerce operations. Real local home broadband (e.g., Virgin Media, BT, Sky, TalkTalk) is absolutely critical for my use case.

Strict Requirements:

Type: UK Dedicated ISP / Static Residential IPv4.

ASN: Must be recognized as a genuine ISP, not Datacenter or Hosting.

rDNS: Valid Reverse DNS (PTR record) must be configured or configurable.

Cleanliness: Must pass Scamalytics (score < 10) and MXToolbox without blacklists.

Volume: I am looking to purchase multiple lines/IPs for long-term use.

Budget: Maximum $10 per IP per month.

Payment: I can pay via Cryptocurrency (Zcash/USDT).

I will need to verify the ASN and rDNS before purchasing in bulk. Datacenter IPs disguised as residential will be detected and rejected immediately.

Please PM me your offers or reply below if you can provide this specific setup. Thank you.

I am not criticising in anyway but just want to get some help. Apologies if I have misunderstood anything or done anything wrong, please point out.

So I started off wanting to transfer the service by changing my email address. I thought it is easier in this way so they can just go ahead and change the email but they rejected with good reasons related to security issues, fairs and I agreed.

Should have seen this in the first place.

So I went and closed the old ticket, opened a new one to request the service transfer.

Here is the screenshot of the ticket https://ibb.co/zhDWz6G0

Hello all,

I’ve found many piracy sites use Cloudflare as a CDN, which by extension ‘masks’ the real origin IP.

Reading Cloudflare’s website, I’ve found that they forward DMCA takedown requests rather than act on it.

Does this mean that if the origin server is DMCA ignored, there is a certain level of ‘immunity’ to DMCA takedowns? I haven’t found this anywhere in Cloudflare terms, but does Cloudflare reveal your contact information to anyone who files a DMCA takedown, or will they only do this under court order?

Is it known that Cloudflare will deactivate your account due to DMCA complaints?

I have a bit of paranoia as I am currently hosting a small amount of document archives offshore and would like to ideally keep anonymity as well as ensure the operation of the site.

Is it a better idea to skip Cloudflare and just go straight to offshore server?

Cheers.

I’m having a recurring issue with a DediRock VPS and it’s becoming very frustrating.

A few days ago, my server suddenly became inaccessible via SSH, and Cloudflare also started returning 503 errors. I opened a support ticket, and after about a day they fixed it.

However, only two days later, the exact same problem happened again.

I checked the VPS itself:

sshd is running normally
port 22 is listening on 0.0.0.0
UFW allows 22, 80, and 443
from inside the VPS, it can connect to its own public IP on port 22 successfully
So this really does not look like a simple issue inside the VPS. It seems much more likely to be something on the provider side, such as networking, ACL, routing, host node, or public IP mapping.

What makes me even more uncomfortable is that support asked me for the root password in order to fix the issue. I’m not comfortable sharing the root password, especially when this appears to be a provider-side infrastructure problem rather than a basic guest OS issue.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with DediRock recently?
And is it considered normal or acceptable for a VPS provider to ask for the root password in this kind of situation?

At this point I’m seriously considering moving to another provider, because I can’t keep dealing with the same issue every few days.

III. DNS and Routing Configuration

3.1 Cloudflare DNS

Add A record:
jk.xxxx.xxx
→
10.10.0.1
, Proxy status: Off (Grey cloud/DNS Only).

3.2 XRay Server Routing Rules (cf / cf2)

Add the following at the very beginning of the
routing.rules
array:

{
  "type": "field",
  "domain": ["domain:jk.xxxx.xxx"],
  "outboundTag": "direct-out"
}

⚠️ This must precede the
geoip:private
block rule; otherwise, intranet IPs will be blackholed.

Restart XRay:

sudo systemctl restart xray

3.3 v2rayN Client Routing

Ensure the routing rules in v2rayN route
.xxxx.xxx
or
jk.xxxx.xxx
through the proxy instead of a direct connection.

IV. Agent Installation (Monitored Nodes)

4.1 Panel Settings

Log in to
[https://jk.xxxx.xxx:8008](https://jk.xxxx.xxx:8008)
, go to Settings, and set the Dashboard Address to:

http://10.10.0.1:25774

Note: Agents communicate via HTTP port 25774 to avoid certificate issues. Browser access remains via
[https://jk.xxxx.xxx:8008](https://jk.xxxx.xxx:8008)
.

4.2 Add Nodes

Go to Servers → Add Node, add cf / cf2 / task / bwg.

Click the Download Icon next to the node to get the one-click installation command.

Recommended: Check Disable Remote Control (for security) and Ignore Unsafe Certificates (if using self-signed certs).

4.3 Execute Installation Command on Each Node

# Verify intranet connectivity first
curl http://10.10.0.1:25774

# Execute the installation command generated by the panel (URL should be http://10.10.0.1:25774)
# Example (Copy the actual command from your panel):
# wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/komari-monitor/komari-agent/refs/heads/main/install.sh \
# | sudo bash -s -- -e http://10.10.0.1:25774 -t <TOKEN> --month-rotate 1

4.4 Uninstall Agent

sudo systemctl stop komari-agent
sudo systemctl disable komari-agent
sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/system/komari-agent.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo rm -rf /opt/komari/agent /var/log/komari

V. Security Hardening

5.1 Port Exposure Check

# Confirm public IP cannot access these ports
curl -I http://PUBLIC_IP:8008 # Should return Connection Refused
curl -I http://PUBLIC_IP:25774 # Should return Connection Refused

5.2 Architectural Security Points

Docker binds only to
127.0.0.1:25774
, not exposed to the public.

Nginx HTTPS listens on
10.10.0.1:8008
(for browser access).

Nginx HTTP listens on
10.10.0.1:25774
(for agent communication).

Both ports are bound to the WG intranet interface; unreachable from the public internet.

Agents communicate via WG intranet
[http://10.10.0.1:25774](http://10.10.0.1:25774)
(no certificate required).

Users access via XRay proxy chain to HTTPS:8008; no direct external path.

XRay routing still blocks
geoip:private
except for the explicitly allowed
10.10.0.0/24
.

VI. Common Operations

# View Master status
docker ps | grep komari
docker logs komari --tail 20

# Restart Master
docker restart komari

# Update Master
docker pull ghcr.io/komari-monitor/komari:latest
docker stop komari && docker rm komari
docker run -d \
  -p 127.0.0.1:25774:25774 \
  -v /opt/komari/data:/app/data \
  --name komari \
  --restart unless-stopped \
  ghcr.io/komari-monitor/komari:latest

# Backup Data
cp -r /opt/komari/data /opt/komari/data.bak.$(date +%Y%m%d)

# View Nginx status
sudo systemctl status nginx
sudo tail -20 /var/log/nginx/error.log

# Certificate Renewal (acme.sh renews automatically; manual trigger below)
~/.acme.sh/acme.sh --renew -d "*.xxxx.xxx" --force

Hi Community,

I have reach out to you all in a hope of getting some help after getting no response from Dartnode.

I am a student and love self hosting stuffs and I am a customer since August Iast year. Besides an issue with their ipv6 routing few months ago I never had any problem.

But this month I stumbled upon a very strange payment bug and I feel no one is listening. I pay my invoice every month between 1-3, 1st is due date but they give a generous grace period of 3 days. And due to my tight budget I am always able to pay btw 1 to 3, i never defaulted and always paid in time. **This month too i paid on May 3rd but instead of it getting applied to invoice as usual, it got diverted to credits. **I didn't thought much and selcted pay with credits, but out of my $2.80 only $1.80 got paid and I was unable to use the remaining $1 saying its mandatory to have that much and contact support. I never had this issue ever before. I raised a ticket and it automatically got diverted to accounting with 7 days TAT. I was relaxed thinking that it will be automatically applied at end of grace period. But next day I got an email that they suspended by VM due to no payment. I replied to it explaining everything with ticket # i created. It created a new ticket and it sat there for whole day with no response. After 24 hours i created a third ticket for no response on above two and a rep stated that a specialist team rep will contact me for response shortly. After some time my $1 was applied to invoice but my VPS was still suspended. Its been now more than 24 hours and no response on it yet and the other two.

I am afraid that before they would even respond, their automated system would delete my vps and all my data will be gone. I would be grateful if yall could help this to get their attention so it could be resolved asap. I dont have any other problem, they are a great host, its just a bug in their payment system creating this issue.

My ticket #s 24369, 24413 and 24442

Thanks!

Hello,

I am looking for a low-cost VPS or dedicated server in Europe for a very specific use case:

🎮 Main use case:
Running PCSX2 (PlayStation 2 emulator)
Occasional light retro gaming
Remote access via Moonlight / Parsec / Sunshine
No AI / no rendering / no heavy compute workloads
⚙️ Minimum requirements:
CPU
Strong single-core performance is important
Modern CPU preferred (Intel 10th gen+ / Ryzen 3000+ or newer)
4–8 cores are fine (emulation does not scale well)
GPU (IMPORTANT)

I am NOT looking for high-end GPUs.

I only need:

Entry-level GPU or APU iGPU with:
Vulkan support
OpenGL support
Hardware video encoding (NVENC / AMF / QuickSync)

Examples that would be fine:

GTX 1050 / 1060 / T400 / T600
RTX A2000 (even better)
AMD Vega / RDNA iGPU (6800H / 7840HS class if exposed)
RAM / Storage
16 GB RAM minimum
SSD / NVMe preferred
Location
Europe only (preferably DE / NL / PL)

The cheaper the better.

Some users or programs provide a custom interface that you can connect to via SSH. I've looked into this and found a simple way to set it up like this:

Match User guest
    ForceCommand /home/guest/welcome.sh
    PermitEmptyPasswords yes
    PasswordAuthentication yes
    AllowTcpForwarding no
    X11Forwarding no

Recurring access issue with DediRock VPS, support suggested reinstall without explaining the cause

Hi everyone,

I want to share my recent experience with a DediRock VPS and ask whether anyone else has seen similar issues.

I have been using this VPS for about two months. The server is hosted on ColoCrossing infrastructure as far as I know. I have also purchased similar ColoCrossing-based servers directly before, and the same type of configuration usually costs around $10. With DediRock, I saved about $3, so I understood there might be some trade-off.

The VPS had been stable for roughly two months, but today it suddenly became inaccessible.

What I observed:

SSH on my custom port still accepted TCP connections, but closed before key exchange.

HTTP/HTTPS and my control panel ports did not respond normally.

In the DediRock client area, reboot and shutdown actions redirected to a 404 page, so I could not power-cycle the VPS myself.

My Cloudflare Access page was still reachable, but the origin server could not be confirmed as healthy.

I opened a ticket and described the issue in detail. Support replied fairly quickly, which I appreciate. However, they did not explain what actually went wrong. They only said that reinstalling the operating system was the most effective solution and warned that it would wipe all existing data.

I understand that small providers and startups may have limited support resources, so I agreed to the reinstall in order to restore access as quickly as possible. However, after confirming that they could wipe the data, the handling and follow-up have not been as timely as I hoped. At the moment, I am still waiting for the final result.

My personal feeling is that this does not look like a normal guest OS issue. Since the client area power controls also returned 404, and SSH closed before key exchange, it feels more like something related to the provider side, such as the node, network, public IP mapping, or control panel backend.

I am not posting this to attack anyone. I just want to document the experience and ask:

Has anyone else had similar recent issues with DediRock?

Is reinstalling the OS a common first solution from them?

Would it be more reasonable to ask for migration to another VPS with the same specs if the issue might be node/network related?

I will update this thread once I get the final result.

I'm a student looking to expand my TikTok automation project and I’m on a tight budget. I am currently looking for affordable VPS options in the following regions:

USA

Japan (JP)

Netherlands (NL)

My specific requirements:

IP Quality: Must have high-quality IP addresses. Ideally, they should be identified as Residential/ISP or have excellent fraud scores (clean enough to pass TikTok's region detection).

Network: Stable connection for video uploads. 100Mbps port is sufficient.

Budget: Since I am a student managing a small matrix, I am looking for the most cost-effective "direct from provider" deals.

Quantity: I might start with 3-6 instances and scale up if the IP quality is consistent.

If you are a provider or have a recommendation for a source with native/residential IP ranges (not generic data center IPs that are flagged), please drop a comment or PM me.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I’m currently looking into self-hosteed email marketing tools and trying to decide between Sendy, MailWizz, and MailRivo.

I mainly care about automation, unlimited sending/lists, and having a modern UI. I’ll probably use Amazon SES with whichever one I choose.

Sendy and MailWizz seem to be the most established options, but I recently came across MailRivo. It looks more modern and feature-rich than the others, although it’s still pretty new I think.

Did you use any self hosted email makreting tool? If yes, which one and why? How many sending identity can you use?

Would love to hear opinions from people who’ve used any of these platforms.

I recently learned about VPS i have been using linux for a few years now, and i kinda wanna learn about the internet hosting and hosting and stuff like that,

i read online that instead of messing up my base linux install that i use daily i can rent servers (vps) on the internet for cheap so that i can do all the hosting and stuff like that,

i'd like to host:
a simple website maybe,
an IRC server / client ??
some other side projects,
slightly exploring other things (putting out things to download on my website to distribute files,
not high traffic etc)

what kind of things should i be knowing before going headfirst into this journey ? what kind of VPS should i be getting ?

i also want to like maybe hard reset the vps also at times,

nothing too crazy i don't care a lot about the perfomance only the cost (i'm a brokie student) or the ping location i just don't wanna have to choose want i am running, i want to like uk running multiple software so as to get an idea on how to manage them as well,

so my question is:

what kind of VPS should i get ? i want to get it as cheap as possible
can y'all provide some links to providers or offers ? (i did see the 1 dolla offer on the lowendbox if something more cheap is available i'd like that)
how do i go about finding more cheap providers if i need alternatives , (aka where do you find these cheap providers)

thank you in advance for your help.

I’m currently exploring self-hosted email marketing solutions and have narrowed my options down to three popular choices: Sendy, Acelle Mail, and MailWizz. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with these platforms to help me make an informed decision.

Here’s what I’m looking for in a solution:

Ease of use: How beginner-friendly is the platform?
Features: Does it support advanced features like automation, segmentation, and analytics?
Performance: How well does it handle large email lists?
Cost-effectiveness: Is it worth the price compared to other options?
Integration: Does it work well with SMTP services like Amazon SES, Mailgun, or others?

If you’ve used any of these tools (or even alternatives I might have missed), I’d appreciate it if you could share your experience. Which one do you think offers the best value for a self-hosted setup?

Thanks in advance for your input!

We also have some features on the websites that use FFmpeg, C++ binaries, or Node.js. We want to offer high uptime and would like to have two VPSs on different providers: one VPS to serve all the websites and another as a backup. I think the content "clone" could be done using rsync, assuming I configure both servers the same way. We would like to use the backup server if the main VPS is down.

The question is: What is the easiest way to use both servers, and if the main server is down, to automatically show the contents from the secondary server based on your experience?

As a non-profit, we are trying to find an inexpensive way to do this.

I currently have a dedicated server at Hetzner (AMD Ryzen 5 3600 [6c / 12t] (3.6 GHz) / 64 GB DDR4 RAM / 2x 500 GB NVMe), which costs me about $60 per month.

On it, I run a web server (Nginx) alongside MySQL and FFmpeg. The FFmpeg part is used heavily because it’s needed to encode ~10mb videos every couple of minutes. The videos are short, but CPU performance still plays an important role.

Hey everyone,

I’m currently developing a free hosting platform designed to let users quickly create and manage their own hosting accounts with minimal friction. The goal is to make something genuinely useful for beginners, developers, and small projects—without the usual barriers.

Before I take this any further, I’d really like to get real feedback from people who understand hosting and real-world usage.

A few things I’d love your input on:

What would make you actually use a platform like this?
What limits would feel fair for a free plan? (storage, bandwidth, etc.)
What features are absolutely essential?
What would immediately turn you away from using it?
Any ideas on how this could evolve into something sustainable long-term?
One important note: this platform will have a strict zero-tolerance policy for abuse (spam, phishing, illegal content, etc.). The goal is to build something clean, stable, and actually usable—not another platform that gets flooded with garbage.

I’m still in the development phase, so your feedback can directly shape how this turns out.

Appreciate any honest thoughts

I’m currently experiencing a critical issue with my VPS on HostHatch and would really appreciate any help.

I cannot access the server via SSH or terminal
I attempted to reboot the VPS, but it failed
The console status shows “disconnected”
I submitted a support ticket over 60 minutes ago, but haven’t received any response yet

This VPS is important for my work, so the downtime is quite urgent.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue before?

Could this be a node or network problem on their side?
Is there anything I can try from my end while waiting for support?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 🙏

I'm considering using one my of my 64GB RAM KS's, for local API access and rewriting primarily, so performance isnt too important as long as it gets the job done.

Today, my friend tried to increase the size of the disk of 1 LXC and unfortunately, he didn't check that the "local-lvm" was 100% full.
Now the LXC is completely dead and cannot be booted.
When I try to start, it said:

DEBUG conf - ../src/lxc/conf.c:run_buffer:310 - Script exec /usr/share/lxc/hooks/lxc-pve-prestart-hook 103 lxc pre-start produced output: mount: /var/lib/lxc/.pve-staged-mounts/rootfs: cannot mount; probably corrupted filesystem on /dev/mapper/pve-vm--103--disk--0.

and when I try to run fsck

e2fsck 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021)
ext2fs_open2: Superblock checksum does not match superblock
fsck.ext4: Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks...
fsck.ext4: Superblock checksum does not match superblock while trying to open /dev/pve/vm-103-disk-0

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a valid ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
    e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
or
    e2fsck -b 32768 <device>

Tried finding backup block and e2fsck but no success.

Is there any chance that I can repair the disk and get the data inside the LXC? Thank you so much

Greetings!
I am looking for a VPS capable of hosting my TF2 server, that is both small enough to be overlooked by whatever governing body Russia has that blocks connections, and chill enough to not block Russians.
Some of the mainstays in my current server - a Norwegian managed host - are Russian, however requests have popped up for a plugin that requires a Linux server, while my managed host is using Windows. (+41 ammo bug and all)

This, alongside me having grown more comfortable using Linux to host a game server, means I am now ready to move to a VPS.

I originally tried Hetzner due to it earlier having hosted a sourcemod for me, the CPX21 package to my recollection, but either they block Russia or Russia blocks them. Or both.

Desirable specs otherwise:
2 vCPU or one really fast vCPU
4GB RAM
40-50GB of storage (Enough for TF2 server itself and custom maps)
Enough bandwidth to handle a sprays enabled TF2 server with LateDL for 24 players
A Linux OS that does not fight me installing 32-bit binaries SteamCMD wants

Location: Somewhere in Europe so the otherwise European playerbase can get decent ping. Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Baltics... Somewhere around that belt.

Budget: Somewhere along the lines of 20-25 Euro a month

A managed TF2 host is a no-go for me. My current managed host has really good and quick support, which gave me privilege escalation to install .dll and .so files for the anticheat I put in, which is far from guaranteed elsewhere.
However, since I would be SSH-ing into the new VPS, all I need is decent reliability and maintenance to happen outside of the evening playtime.

I pre-emptively thank you for your time and information, and if there are any specific questions you wish me to answer then you need only to ask.

Yours truly
Konagoat

I want to build a project similar to PikaPods. I'll be hosting apps like 'Uptime Kuma' and 'Ghost Blog' for potential clients, but I'm not sure how to architect the workflow.

I’m thinking of getting a high-resource VDS and deploying the apps via Dokploy or Coolify. Alternatively, I could spin up a separate VDS for each individual user.

Would VDS providers be bothered by high traffic or heavy CPU & RAM usage? Honestly, rather than incurring the heavy overhead of a bare metal server from the start, I think it makes more sense to begin with 64 GB of RAM and upgrade my resources based on the situation.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this approach.
Thanks.

Hi all,

I have an IPv4 /24 and IPv6 /48 from ARIN, along with multiple Hetzner VPS instances in Ashburn VA, Hillsboro OR, Frankfurt and Singapore.

I'm looking to announce my ARIN blocks through a provider and have incoming traffic geo-routed to the nearest VPS — without building my own BGP infrastructure or dealing with colocation.

The provider would handle the announcement and forward traffic to my Hetzner backends, ideally for both IPv4 and IPv6.

I'm aware I could spin up VPS nodes with BGP session support (Vultr, BuyVM, etc.) and DIY it, but I'm specifically looking for a managed solution — think Cloudflare Magic Transit, but not enterprise-priced.

Hetzner unfortunately doesn't offer BGP sessions on their VPS/dedicated products — only on colocation, which isn't an option for me.

Any recommendations?

p.s. production-ready only — not looking for a hobbyist setup or a one-man operation.

What I want is to use simple prompts, give some points and the ai generates good quality content, the I customize them according to my needs also might humanise them using quillbot or any other tools. I don't get enough time after working and studying. That's why I want the ai to do heavy lifting for me.

As I am starting the site, I am not considering buying premium ai tools at the moment. In future I will consider buying premium tools if needed.

Since we are an image host we receive DMCA and CSAM request to our storage provider to remove the content and we keep taking down in less than 5 minutes to be in comply.

But few authorities, send request to the provider where we host our main website and now they did and @vsys_host suspends the server and not even allowing us to take the backup of many thing we have on our server.

They keep saying they have to suspend the server since the received complaint. And we said that is fine, we need backup and so we can move on.

Please let us know your suggestions to get our backup from them.

I have also DMed @vsys_host and no reply to messages even after being active here.

Hi everyone, hoping to get some visibility on an important support ticket with ServaRICA that has stalled out.

On Wednesday, I selected an upgrade option to increase my vCPU from 6 to 8. Shortly after, support reached out saying my VPS needed to be recreated on a new node due to resource limits. I explicitly asked if my existing data could be migrated rather than wiped, and was told they would "coordinate with our team regarding the migration process."

Since then, the server has been completely inaccessible

The old node has disappeared from my panel and it's offline

The new node shows up in the panel but can't be connected to. Can't ssh or even ping it.

The web VNC console opens a login prompt but it does not accept my password.

Support acknowledged that it is a network issue on their end, but the ticket was basically parked over 24 hours ago with a "please give us some time" message and no updates since.

I have been completely locked out for almost two days. Support hasn't fixed the network so I can ssh in and more importantly, nobody has confirmed if my data was actually migrated or if a fresh OS was accidentally installed.

Can an admin please take a look at Ticket #886618, fix the network routing, and confirm the status of the virtual disk?

Before yesterday, by setting up cname flattening in Bunny DNS, I can add the domain as a custom hostname, for example test.com, cname flattening to test.origin.com. But I tried to do it today it says:

custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone.

The hostname is using Cloudflare and cannot be activated with an TXT or HTTP validation token. To activate the custom hostname, the DNS target needs to point to the SaaS zone

I've done this a lot of times and nothing was different today. Maybe CloudFlare might have set strict rules on these today, so it is only available on enterprise plan.

I am opening this thread to warn everyone about HostSlick. I have been a victim of their stalling tactics regarding a refund for a TRC20 (USDT) payment. Despite multiple tickets and days of waiting, they have stopped responding and are withholding my funds.

I have attached 6 screenshots below documenting the entire process:

Proof of Payment: Successful TRC20 transaction from my wallet.

Blockchain Confirmation: Tronscan record showing the funds reached their wallet.

Initial Refund Request: My first ticket asking for a refund (Date shown).

Stalling Replies: Their generic responses designed to waste time.

Ignored Tickets: Proof that my recent inquiries have been left unanswered for days.

Final Notice: The last warning I sent before coming here.

Provider: HostSlick (HostSlick Ltd)
Payment Method: Crypto (TRC20)
Issue: Intentional stalling and refusal to refund.

I am also in the process of filing a formal complaint with the German Prosecutor's Office (Staatsanwaltschaft) since they have operations and footprints in the Berngau/Germany region.

BEWARE: Do not send any crypto payments to this provider unless you are willing to lose your money with zero support.

I will update this thread if (and only if) they process my refund.

Hello, I don’t usually ask for help on forums, but I’m on the verge of my head exploding haha.

I’m trying to install Windows Server on a dedicated OVH server, and no matter what I do, I just can’t get it to work. In the past, I’ve installed Windows using rescue mode on other OVH servers. I’ve followed at least three guides I found on the forum that seemed promising, but none of them worked.

All my services depend on Windows, and I don’t have the time to start converting everything to a Linux-based system. It’s extremely frustrating because I have another server with Windows installed through OVH’s control panel, and I don’t understand how a more powerful server from the same range doesn’t have access to Windows licenses it’s really exasperating.

Using Proxmox or Unix-based virtualization isn’t an option for me either, since I don’t want to add more layers in between.

I managed to install Windows using QEMU in rescue mode, but when I switch to the HDD, Windows doesn’t boot. At first, I thought it was a network driver issue, but I set up a startup script that writes to a .txt file to check whether Windows was actually booting, and there are no signs of life. So I’m assuming it’s a boot-related issue.

I’ve also been looking into how to use the BYOI feature that OVH provides in its control panel, but the documentation is practically nonexistent. I assume it should be possible to install Windows using that method, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to create my own Windows image in the required format for this type of installation.

I don’t have KVM access, so I can’t properly check what’s going on... I’m basically shooting in the dark here.

Hi,
Like the title says, with 2-4GB Ram (Preferably 4GB) and 1Gbps uplink and 2 V Cores minimum, the rest doesn’t matter

The server will be used to host movies and such so strong privacy and DMCA ignore is a must
